The grade six and grade eight D.A.R.E. programs are 10 lesson life-skills programs taught by specially trained police officers to teach students:. 
 
· effective skills for recognizing and resisting social pressures to experiment with tobacco, alcohol and drugs.
 
· positive alternatives to substance use.
 
· risk assessment and decision making skills.
 
· interpersonal and communication skills.

Text Box: Parent Program / Community Program

Text Box: The D.A.R.E. Parent Program / Community Program is offered several times per year in communities throughout the MD of Foothills.  It provides:
· opportunities  for adults to ask questions and learn
 
· tools to raise drug-free, violence-free kids.
 
· basic facts about alcohol, club drugs and tobacco.
 
· information about how drugs are used and what they look like.
 
· skills for communicating effectively with kids about drugs  and violence.
